All-Star Haig is Back with Honkers
(ROCHESTER, MN) The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced that Phil Haig, a 6’3”, 205-pound sophomore left-handed pitcher from the University of Illinois, will return for his second season on the mound for the Honkers. The Inver Grove Heights, MN native was a mid-season All-Star for the Honkers last summer.
Haig is Illinois’ top pitcher so far this spring going 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA in his first five starts.
Last summer, Haig was 5-3 with a 2.49 ERA for the Honkers. He pitched 68.2 innings allowing only 19 earned runs on 57 hits, struck out 41 and walked only eight.
Haig finished his freshman season at Illinois 2-2 with a 5.01 ERA. He had his best outing of the year May 17th against Purdue, earning a complete game win in a 2-0 shutout. He allowed just two hits, walked just two, and threw only 76 pitches in the win. His performance netted him Co-Pitcher of the Week honors from the Big Ten Conference.
Haig was a prolific athlete at Henry Sibley High School in his hometown of Inver Grove Heights, MN. He won All-Suburban Conference awards in five different sports: baseball, football, basketball, wrestling, and tennis. He earned a total of 16 different varsity letters.
