Goins Makes His Return to Waterloo

(WATERLOO, IA) The Waterloo Bucks Baseball Club announced the signing of Dallas Baptist University infielder Ryan Goins. Goins, a 5’11”, 182-pound junior, marks the 5th player to sign with the Bucks for the upcoming season.

In 2008 for the Bucks, Goins batted .318 with 12 doubles and two home runs in 38 games played. For his efforts, the Round Rock, Texas native was selected to participate in the ’08 NWL All-Star game. After the season, the Waterloo shortstop earned recognition for his play from Baseball America and Perfect Game. The publications ranked Goins 8th and 13th respectively in their top Major League Baseball prospect list of the NWL.

Bucks skipper Pete Lauritson hopes Goins will be able to continue his success in the Northwoods.

“Goins is a top talent that will more than likely be a draft pick this summer,” said Lauritson. “He was one of the top 10 players in the league in ’08 for a reason.”

Goins earned First Team All-Independent honors by playing an integral part in the Patriots infield in ’08. Goins finished the season hitting .357 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI.

Starting all 20 games so far this spring for the Patriots Goins is hitting .375 with seven home runs and 21 RBI.
