Stanford Freshman Signs with Waterloo
(WATERLOO, IA) The Waterloo Bucks announced the signing of Stanford freshman Christian Griffiths. The 6’2″, 180-pound switch-hitting catcher will join the Bucks for the 2009 season.
As a four-year starter at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California, Griffiths set every major offensive record in school history. During the summer of 2008, the Apple Valley, California native hit .562 with 29 RBI, 42 runs scored, and eight home runs from the leadoff position. Griffiths impressive stats earned him the 2008 Daily Press California Baseball Athlete of the Year.
Bucks skipper Pete Lauritson believes the Northwoods League is exactly what Griffiths needs.
“Griffiths will continue our relationship with Stanford which has been good to us by sending players that have the ability to play at the next level,” said Lauritson. “I know they rave about Griffiths’ ability to hit as a true freshman and I think this summer is going to give him a lot of at-bats to get where he wants to be as a player.”
Griffiths was selected by the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau as one of the county’s top 200 amateur baseball players prior to the ’08 MLB First Year Player Draft.
In limited at-bats this spring for the Cardinal, Griffiths is hitting .214.
