Bucks Sign NIU Freshman Infielder
(WATERLOO, IA) The Waterloo Bucks announced the signing of Northern Illinois University freshman Troy White. The 6’0″, 190-pound infielder becomes the ninth Buck added to the 2009 roster.
As a senior for Whitney Young High School in Chicago, Illinois, White batted .533 with 14 doubles, seven home runs, and 47 RBI while striking out only nine times in 2008. For his efforts, the senior infielder was awarded with All-State and All-Area selections by the IHSBCA, and conference MVP.
White is currently hitting .322 with three doubles and 13 RBI in 25 games.
Bucks field manager Pete Lauritson is glad he landed White in a Bucks uniform.
“Troy is a player that I targeted right away when Northern Illinois signed him,” said Lauritson. “We need guys that are going to drive in runs and White has that ability. He is going to develop into a very good player down the road.”
Listed as the 58th best senior prospect in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report, White was selected in the 48th round of the 2008 Major League Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
White is looking forward to the experience the NWL offers.
“I have heard from college coaches and players that playing in the NWL is a great experience and I am excited to represent the Waterloo Bucks this summer,” said White.
