Battle Creek Adds Four to Roster

(BATTLE CREEK, MI) The Battle Creek Bombers announced the recent signings of four more players to their 2009 roster. Pitchers Matt Parish and James White from the University of North Carolina Greensboro are set to join pitcher Atlee Pearson and infielder Chas Anthony from Erskine College on the 2009 Bombers.

Parish, a 6’3” 200-pound freshman, has made 12 appearances for the UNCG Spartans this spring. The right hander from Morristown, NJ has 28 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched and carries a 6.29 ERA. White, a sophomore RHP from Clendenin, WV, has yet to see any action for the Spartans, a member of the Southern Conference in Division 1.

“It all starts on the mound of course. With James White we have a lights-out relief option and Matt Parish is an exciting freshman that should be in our rotation this summer,” said Tom Fleenor, new Bombers skipper for 2009.

Pearson is a 6’1” 190-pound sophomore who has made 18 appearances for Erskine. The 19-year old from Lyman, SC is 5-2 with a 3.64 ERA.

Anthony, 6’2” and 195 pounds, has been one of Erskine’s best hitters thus far, hitting at a .403 clip through the team’s first 40 games. The junior slugger from Pickens, SC has 62 hits including 19 doubles, 11 home runs and 47 RBI and a whopping .740 slugging percentage. The 21st ranked (Division II) Flying Fleet are off to a 31-9 start while competing in the Conference Carolinas.

“Pearson is another great relief option for the Bombers. He is extremely tough on righties from a three quarters arm slot, running it up there in the high 80s. And Anthony provides our lineup with some serious pop having hit 18 HR for Division II powerhouse Erskine College in 2008 and earning himself All-American honors,” added Fleenor.
