Cats Sign 6’7″ Slugger, Three Others

(THUNDER BAY, ONT) The Thunder Bay Border Cats announced the signing of four players, including Brian Chase of Kentucky’s Campbellsville University. 

Chase, a 6’7″, 250 pound junior first baseman, is hitting .483 in 37 games this season with 14 home runs and 52 runs batted in. The native of San Jose, CA also has a very impressive .905 slugging percentage. Chase is a teammate at Campbellsville with current Cats third baseman Chris Curley.

Also joining the Cats is pitcher Garrett Yount. The 6’7″, 200 pound right-hander is a freshman at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ. Yount, who hails from Silvis, IL, has appeared in 10 games this season, going 1-0 with a 4.26 earned run average. 

Eddie Brown has signed with the Cats out of Seton Hall University in New Jersey. The 5’10”, 175 pound middle infielder is a sophomore from Edison, NJ. In 32 games with the Pirates this season, Brown is batting .188 with two home runs, eight RBI, and five stolen bases.

The Cats have also added outfielder Derek Hamblen from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Hamblen, a sophomore from Plano, TX, has played in 39 games this season, hitting .301 with two home runs and 17 runs batted in. He also has 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
