Third Hawk Lands in Waterloo

(WATERLOO, IA) The Waterloo Bucks announced the signing of University of Iowa sophomore Zach McCool. The 5’7″, 165-pound middle-infielder joins fellow Hawks Patrick Schatz and Phil Keppler on the Bucks 2009 roster.

As a true freshman in 2008, McCool batted .326 with two doubles and nine RBI in 21 games, which included 13 starts. This season, the Manchester, Iowa native is hitting .227 in with two home runs and nine RBI through 25 games.

Field manager Pete Lauritson knows what McCool can bring to the field.

“Zach is another Iowa native that prepped at West Delaware High School and made the transition from high school to playing in the Big Ten nicely, hitting over .300 his freshman season,” Lauritson said. “He is showing the same thing for the Hawkeyes in his sophomore campaign. I have a feeling Zach is going to bring the same type of grittiness that Steven Irvine did for us last summer.”

A graduate of West Delaware High School, McCool earned first team All-Conference, All-District, and All-State honors his junior and senior seasons. During his senior campaign, McCool batted .408 with 47 RBI and 18 stolen bases and a 4-0 record, 40 strikeouts, and a 1.62 ERA on the mound.
