Mankato Signs Two Hot-Hitting Infielders

(MANKATO, MN) The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club announced the signing of two players for 2009. Redshirt freshman second baseman AJ Pettersen from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN) and sophomore third baseman Cody Fick of the University of Evansville (Evansville, IN) have committed to play for the MoonDogs this summer.

Pettersen, a 5’9” 170 lb. redshirt freshman from Minnetonka, MN, is having a stellar season for the Golden Gophers. He is currently hitting .373 on the season with 7 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 35 RBI, and 8 stolen bases, while playing in all 43 games (30-13 overall).

Last summer, AJ played in the Northwoods League for Brainerd, playing in 65 games for the Blue Thunder
(now the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers). He led the team in batting average (.303), stolen bases (15), walks (30), and was second on the team with 25 RBI.

“Having already played one season in the league, AJ will be a huge asset to have in Mankato,” said MoonDogs General Manager Kyle Mrozek. “He did extremely well last season in Brainerd, and we’re excited about what he brings to the MoonDogs.”

Fick, a 6’0” 190 lb. sophomore from Freeburg, MO, has started all 47 games for the Aces in 2009. He is currently hitting for a .319 average, with 16 doubles, 8 home runs, and 40 RBI. Cody is ranked near the top of the Missouri Valley Conference in multiple offensive categories.

“Cody will be a huge asset to our team this summer,” said MoonDogs Field Manager Mike Orchard. “He brings a strong bat to our lineup, and gives us stability at third base; we’re really excited to have him in Mankato.”
