Division II standout highlights recent signings by club

Battle Creek, MI – The Battle Creek Bombers are pleased to announce the signings of three more players to their 2009 roster. Pitchers Josh McElwee and James Jones, along with outfielder Greg Annarummo, will join the Bombers for the 2009 season.

McElwee, 6’4” and 225 pounds, is a sophomore pitcher for Newberry College (Newberry, SC) of the South Atlantic Conference. The big right hander recently completed a fine season earning the Cy Young award as the team’s top pitcher and was named 2nd team All-South Atlantic Conference. He finished 5-3 with a 4.58 ERA in 15 starts, striking out an impressive 91 batters in 76.2 innings.

Jones, also a right hander from John A. Logan University (Carterville, IL), appeared in 14 games for the 31-21 Volunteers this spring. The 6’3” 210 pound sophomore recorded two wins in six decisions and recorded a 4.91 ERA.

“Josh McElwee and James Jones are two power arms that we are very excited about,” said Tom Fleenor, the Bombers new skipper in 2009. “McElwee has dominated Division II baseball the last 2 seasons with Newberry College and Jones is a junior college guy with a ton of upside. Both should be very tough against the wood bats this summer,” added Fleenor.

Annarummo becomes the third successive Elon University (Elon, NC) player to suit up for the Bombers, joining college teammates Daniel Britt (RHP, 2007) and Ken Ferrer (RHP, 2008) who have played in Battle Creek in the team’s brief 3-year history. The 6’1” 205 lb. outfielder hit .338 in 35 games for the Phoenix as a freshman including five home runs and 22 runs batted in.

“Greg Annarummo put up great numbers last year as a freshman at Elon and is starting to heat up in ’09 after a slow start,” said Fleenor. “He is also capable of giving us some emergency help off the mound which is always valuable during a long summer.”
