MoonDogs Sign Three from Central Arizona

 

(Mankato, MN)–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is proud to announce the signing of three players for 2009.  Sophomore pitcher Adam Jung, sophomore catcher Xorge Carrillo, and sophomore outfielder Kenny Held, all of Central Arizona College (Coolidge, AZ) have agreed to play for the MoonDogs this season.

Jung, a 6’2” 175 lb. sophomore from North Saanich, British Columbia, has had an impressive season on the mound for the Vaqueros. In 12 starts, Adam has a 5-1 record and a 2.97 ERA, striking out 63 batters in 75.2 innings pitched. He has thrown two complete games, and recorded one shutout. Adam has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of South Alabama next year.

“Adam is a physically developed pitcher who has four pitches,” said Central Arizona Pitching Coach and MoonDogs Field Manager Mike Orchard. “He is extremely consistent, and routinely gives us quality starts.”

Carrillo, a 6’1” 210 lb. sophomore from Tempe, AZ, has played in 49 games for the Vaqueros in 2009.  He is currently hitting .359, with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 34 RBI. Xorge has signed a letter of intent to play at Arizona State University next year.

“Xorge is one of the premier junior college catchers in the country,” said Orchard. “He is very solid offensively, and handles our pitching staff well.”

Held, a 6’2” 220 lb. sophomore from Tucson, AZ, has played in 35 games for Central Arizona this season. He has a .306 average to go along with 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 22 RBI, and six stolen bases.

“Kenny is a great all-around player,” said Orchard. “He is a factor both offensively and defensively, and provides tremendous depth to our team.”

On the season, Central Arizona currently boasts a 49-11 record, and finished with a 30-8 record in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play. They are currently ranked #7 in the NJCAA Division I rankings, and won the NJCAA Division 1 Regional Championship over the weekend. They begin District Playoff games on Thursday, where the winner moves on to the NJCAA World Series.
