Festivities kicked off as the Northwoods League’s finest gathered in Thunder Bay, Ontario yesterday for the 2009 All-Star Game hosted by the reigning champion Border Cats.

Opening ceremonies included welcoming comments from Border Cat President/General Manager Brad Jorgenson and Northwoods League President Dick Radatz, Jr., introductions of the All-Star players, managers, and coaches, dinner and remarks from Canadian and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer, Ferguson Jenkins.

Jenkins shared memories from his experiences through the minor leagues and of his 18 years in the majors.  Themes of faith and family merged with his message of striving for the good moments, but accepting the inevitable bad moments.  He stressed the importance of teammates and showing dedication to the task at hand.

Activities continue today with players from across the league participating in combine action beginning at noon.
