Robbie Weinhardt continues to impress in 2009. Weinhardt, who pitched for the St. Cloud River Bats in their 2007 Championship Season, is finishing up his season in the Arizona Fall League along with many of baseball’s other top prospects.

On Monday, he was named “Pitcher of the Week” after pitching four scoreless innings, striking out seven, and earning a save for the Peoria Javelinas in Week 5 of the season. After allowing runs in his first three games this fall, Weinhardt has settled in by tossing 11 consecutive scoreless innings spanning six appearances. In that time he’s struck out 18, walked just two, and allowed only six hits.

Weinhardt, 23, is a right-hander in the Detroit Tigers’ system. He finished the 2009 regular season in Double-A with the Erie Seawolves where he carried a 2.30 ERA in 20 appearances. This followed his promotion from the Single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers where he dominated the Florida State League to the tune of a 0.85 ERA in 22 games. Combined, Weinhardt went 1-2 with five saves and a 1.57 ERA in 63 innings with 72 strikeouts and 26 walks.

Weinhardt, 6’2″ 205 lbs, was a 10th round draft choice out of Oklahoma State University by the Tigers in 2008.
