(Wausau, WI) The Wisconsin Woodchucks have signed Pepperdine pitcher Jordan Luvisi for the fast approaching 2010 season. Luvisi, an Arizona native, is a 6’2” left-handed true freshman for the Pepperdine Waves, starting off his collegiate career as a reliever.

Luvisi has pitched four innings thus far through his freshman campaign, and has posted some pretty impressive numbers- especially for a freshman lefty. Luvisi has allowed only two hits and had four strikeouts to the tune of a .154 opponent BA (tops on the team).

Jordan LuvisiLuvisi starred at the plate, on the mound, and at the hockey rink while attending Notre Dame Prep High School in Arizona. While showing off his athleticism by posting the highest Nike SPARQ score in Arizona, Luvisi led his baseball team to a trio of state runner-up titles while winning two state hockey championships. Luvisi batted .372 with 31 RBI and 10 HR as a senior, while posting a 1.53 ERA- allowing just 32 hits in 60 innings pitched. He would go on to be named All-State (for hockey as well), All-Region, and Regional Player of the Year for three consecutive years.

Luvisi’s high school performance, coupled with his athleticism, impressed enough to warrant being drafted out of high school by the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, he chose to attend Pepperdine for its baseball program and academic esteem.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the summer season with the Woodchucks,” said Luvisi on joining the team. “I’m hoping just to help them win games and make a run in the playoffs.” He will be joined in Wausau this summer by current teammate at Pepperdine, third baseman, Chris Amezquita.

The Woodchucks 2010 home opener is on Thursday, June 3rd as they take on the Madison Mallards.  For group outing/ticket information contact the Woodchucks office at 715-845-5055 or visit the new Woodchucks website at woodchucks.com.
