The St. Cloud River Bats have announced that Juan Berenguer will be the featured guest July 5th for Twins Night presented McKay’s Family Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Mitsubishi. “Senor Smoke,” as he was called, will throw out the first pitch prior to Monday’s game against the Rochester Honkers. He will stick around to take pictures and sign autographs during the game.
“It’s always great to get a former Major Leaguer to the park,” River Bats Managing Partner Joel Sutherland said. “Juan won a World Series with the Twins – we’re all going to be honored to have him in our presence.”
Berenguer played 15 seasons in MLB including four memorable seasons (1987-1990) with the Minnesota Twins. Revered for his mid-90s fastball, Berenguer went 8-1 with a 3.94 ERA for the World Champion Twins in 1987. “Senior Smoke” also won a World Series with the Kansas City Royals in 1984.
“I anticipate a lot of energy in the ballpark when Juan walks out onto the field,” Director of Business Operations Wes Sharp said. “His first pitch will bring back a lot of memories for longtime Twins fans.”
Twins mascot T.C. Bear will be in attendance at the game.
