Mallards’ Manager C.J. Thieleke earned his 200th regular season win on Friday night as the Mallards beat the Bullfrogs 4-1 in front of 5,661 at the “Duck Pond.”
In his six seasons as manager of the Mallards, Thieleke has never had a losing record. He currently sits at 200-165 in the regular season with a 6-7 playoff record. Thieleke’s best season came in 2008 when the team played for the Northwoods League Championship, but fell just short by one run in game three of the series with the Thunder Bay Border Cats. He is currently fourth on the All-Time Managerial Regular Season Win list with 200 wins behind Dave Parra (BRD, ROC, DUL) who has 211.
“It means a lot to win number 200, I’ve had a lot of great kids come through here,” said Thieleke. “I love this league and all it does for college baseball and watching the kids come here for the summer and take advantage of the opportunities put in front of them.”
Thieleke has been the Assistant Coach for the Madison College Wolfpack since 2005. Thieleke was born in Madison, WI and grew up in Iowa City, IA. At Iowa City High School, he was a four-sport standout athlete. In his senior season, he was named Iowa’s high school baseball player-of-the-year. After graduating high school in 1993, Thieleke received a baseball scholarship to attend the University of Iowa. In 1994, he was named Big Ten freshman-of-the-year and played second base for the Hawkeyes from 1994-96. In 1996, Thieleke was drafted in the 32nd round of the Major League amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins and played in the organization for two years.
