Rochester 6, Thunder Bay 3
The Rochester Honkers pounded out 14 hits and used a great pitching performance from Rochester native, Josh McKeon (Upper Iowa), to beat Thunder Bay 6-3. McKeon threw 6.0 innings of four hit baseball to improve his record to 3-1. Josef Terry (Cerritos) had four hits for the Honkers and two RBI to improve his average to .522 in five games played. The Border Cats left fielder, Ken Battiston (Eastern Michigan), provided most of the offense going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Waterloo 4, Wisconsin Rapids 2
The Waterloo Bucks used a great pitching performance from Jared Wagoner (Butler) to beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters by a score of 4-2 on Friday night. Wagoner threw 7.0 innings of scoreless baseball while only giving up three hits. Bucks nine-hitter Chase Jaramillo (Nicholls State) was 1-for-4 with two RBI. The Rafters designated hitter Quinton Perry (Santa Clara) had two hits and two RBI in the loss.
Alexandria 4, Duluth 2
The Alexandria Beetles used a four run sixth innings to beat the Duluth Huskies on Friday night. The Beetles got a great offensive performance out of Mikel Alvarez (Florida Gulf Coast) who was 3-for-3 with one run scored and reach based in all of his at bats. Huskies designate hitter Mark Threlkeld (Louisiana Tech) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. The Beetles Lindsey Caughel (Stetson) earned the win while Kevin Vangheluwe (Michigan) earned his third save of the season.
Mankato 9, Willmar 2
Mankato hurried out to a 7-0 lead after five innings against the Willmar Stingers to take the win Friday night. The MoonDogs Jordan Steranka (Penn State) had a huge day at the plate going 2-for-4 with one run scored and four RBI. MoonDogs starter Alex Blackford (Arizona State) earned the win throwing 7.0 innings of two run baseball while only giving up three hits.
Brainerd 5, St. Cloud 4
Brainerd used a great bullpen performance from Brandon Baumgartner and Ray Black (Pittsburgh) to beat the St. Cloud River Bats on Friday night. Baumgartner earned the win out of the bullpen as Black earned the save. The Lunkers received a three hit performance out of two players; T.J. Berge (Northern Colorado) and David Allbritton (Emporia State). Joey Benke (St. Cloud State) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the loss.
La Crosse 9, Battle Creek 3
The La Crosse Loggers used a six run seventh inning to beat the Battle Creek Bombers in Michigan on Friday night. The Loggers Tony Mueller (Winona State) was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Matt Flemer (California Berkeley) earned the win. Flemer threw a fantastic game while only giving up seven hits over 8.0 innings. The Bombers Josh Lyon and Dan Dispensa (Western Illinois) each had two hits in the loss.
Madison 7, Wisconsin 6
It took extra innings Friday night in Madison to determine the winner of Madison versus Wisconsin. The Mallards took the game 7-6 in dramatic fashion. The Mallards J.R. Graham (Santa Clara) hit a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the tenth to give the Mallards a 7-6 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks in front of 6,733 fans at the “Duck Pond.” Not only did Graham get the walk-off hit, but he also picked up the win after pitching a scoreless tenth inning. Wisconsin’s Chris Licon (Lubbock Christian) is credited with the loss after giving up the go-ahead run and Anthony Drobnick (Washington State) receives a blown save for giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Eau Claire 9, Green Bay 0
The Eau Claire Express (1-0, 23-12) blew the Frogs out by a score of 9-0. Kris Edwards (St. Thomas) took the loss for the Bullfrogs going 2.2 innings, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits. Rudy Jaramillo (New Mexico) picked up the win, going 7.0 innings with only two hit balls, and striking out five. Eau Claire was led offensively by Lucas Herbst (Santa Clara) who was 3-for-4 on the night. The Bullfrogs were led at the plate by Troy Scott (Washington) who picked up 2-for-5 for the Bullfrogs on the evening.
