Following discussions with a number of Major League Baseball organizations after the NWL All Star Game in Eau Claire, WI earlier this week, Border Cats reliever Drew Erwin has signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. The 6’1″, 190 righthander was heading into his senior season this fall at Nicholls State University in Louisiana.

Erwin appeared in 20 games for the Cats this season, compiling a 2-3 record with a 3.98 earned run average and a league leading 10 saves. The native of Alvin, TX recorded 19 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched. Erwin, who was in his second year with Thunder Bay, set a franchise record by appearing in 38 games last season, going 2-3 with five saves and a 4.84 ERA.

Erwin will report on Friday to the Phillies minor league complex in Clearwater, Florida.
