No-Hitter Thrown for Madison

Rochester 5, Brainerd 4
The Rochester Honkers beat the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers 5-4 Sunday afternoon in front of 1,152 fans in extra innings.  The Lunkers put up one run in the twelfth to break the tie at 3-3, but Rochester stormed back in the bottom of twelve to win 5-4.  Both Andrew Mendenhall (Oregon) and Jimmy Waters (Kansas) scored on a Lunkers error to take the game.  The Honkers Anthony Lopez (California State Los Angeles) earned the win in relief throwing 3.0 innings of one run baseball.  The Lunkers Stephen Wickens (Florida Gulf Coast) homered in the loss. 

Waterloo 7, Green Bay 4
The Bucks used big innings early in the game and also late to beat the Green Bay Bullfrogs 7-4 Sunday afternoon.  All Bucks starters, but one registered a hit in the game and were led by Chase Jaramillo (Nicholls State) who had two hits and two RBI.  Taylor Massey (Dallas Baptist) earned his fifth win of the season by throwing 6.0 innings of three-hit baseball.  The Bullfrogs Scott Schebler (Wichita State) hit his second homerun in two nights and now leads the NWL with nine. 

Wisconsin 5, Battle Creek 1
The Wisconsin Woodchucks jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead after three innings against the Battle Creek Bombers and took the game 5-1 on Sunday.  The Woodchucks used multi-hit from Travis Whitmore (Pittsburgh) and Patrick Terry who combined to drive in four runs.  The Woodchucks starting pitcher Don Lisi (Central Missouri) took a no-decision after throwing 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball while Jordan Luvisi (Pepperdine) earned the win throwing the final 5.0 innings of one run baseball. 

La Crosse 8, Eau Claire 6
The La Crosse Loggers were down 6-2 after five innings against the Eau Claire Express , but stormed back with six runs in the final four frames to take the game 8-6.  La Crosse was led offensively by Tony Mueller (Winona State) who was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two stolen bases.  The Loggers Jordan Haver threw 4.1 innings in relief to earn the win while Madison Boer (Oregon) threw the final inning to earn his third save of the season.  Josh Scheffert (Nebraska) and Nate Baumann (Augustana) both homered in the loss for the Express. 

Madison 4, Wisconsin Rapids 0
Rusty Shellhorn (Washington State) of the Madison Mallards threw the first no-hitter of the 2010 NWL season.  Shellhorn was dominant against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters as he earned his third win of the season by striking out eight Rafters batters.  Shellhorn received four runs of support as the Mallards were led offensively by Jon Pierre Garcia (Southeastern CC) who had three hits on the night.  Kyle Gaedele (Valparaiso) had three steals in the game.   

Mankato 5, Thunder Bay 0
The Mankato MoonDogs received an impressive pitching performance from Blake Schwartz (Minnesota State Mankato) who threw a two hitter over 7.2 innings earning his third win of the season.  Schwartz struck out eight Border Cats in the win.  The MoonDogs had three players with multi-hit games while center fielder Mike Moore who was 2-for-4 with two RBI.  The Border Cats Evan Mistich (Panola Junior College) had two hits in the loss. 

St. Cloud, Willmar

The game between the St. Cloud River Bats and the Willmar Stingers has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions at Joe Faber Field. The contest will be made up tomorrow, August 2, at Joe Faber as part of a double-header. The Bats and  Stingers will play two, seven-inning games beginning at 6:05 p.m.

Alexandria, Duluth
Due to poor field conditions, the scheduled game between the Alexandria Beetles and the Duluth Huskies at Knute Nelson Memorial Ballpark has been postponed.  The teams will play two seven-inning games Monday night starting at 7:05 p.m.
