Brainerd 12, Duluth 7
The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers beat the Duluth Huskies 12-7 on Sunday night as the two teams combined to knock out 34 hits. The Lunkers had 19 hits while the Huskies had 15, but committed two errors and walked four batters. Brainerd’s Stephen Wickens, TJ Berge and Tommy Reyes each had three hits while Hogan Jackson had two hits and drove in three runs in the victory. Mark Threlkeld hit his 10th home run of the season in the loss for the Huskies which ties him with Scott Schebler of the Green Bay Bullfrogs for the league lead.
St. Cloud 10, Rochester 8
The River Bats beat the Rochester Honkers to clinch their spot in the 2010 playoffs by a score of 10-8. St. Cloud used a solid pitching performance from starting pitcher Austen Wisroth (Wayne State) and a four-hit night from second basemen Tommy Coyle (North Carolina). The River Bats Deryk Marks (Augustana) continued his hot hitting as he was 3-for-4 with four RBI in the win. Jimmy Waters (Kansas) had another great night at the plate as he was 4-for-5 with three RBI in the loss while Chris Elder homered twice.
Waterloo 5, Eau Claire 4
Waterloo was down 4-2 during the bottom of the eighth, but scored three runs to take the game 5-4. Brandon Williams had a two-run triple in the eighth that scored Jordan Adams and Jake Astor for the Bucks. Williams was 2-for-4 on the night with two RBI while Landon Anderson and Andrew Ewing also had two hits in the win. Nate Baumann was 2-for-4 on the night with a two-run triple in the top of the eighth.
La Crosse 5, Wisconsin 1
The Loggers bounced back from a lop-sided loss last night and beat the Woodchucks 5-1 in front of 2,442 fans. La Crosse was very balanced in the win as all but one batter in the line-up registered a hit and Jordan Haver threw a complete game four hitter. Sam Picchiotti was 2-for-4 on the night with two RBI while Seth Mejias-Brean also had two hits in the victory. Carlos Amezquita had two hits in the loss for the Woodchucks.
Battle Creek 10, Wisconsin Rapids 7
The Battle Creek Bombers beat the Rafters at Witter Field 10-7 as the Rafters committed seven errors. The Bombers used those seven errors and 13 hits to win their 6th game of the 2nd Half. Eric Schultz was 4-for-6 in the win with three runs scored as the leadoff hitter. Ryne Ottis registered three hits as did Brett Kauten.
Thunder Bay 7, Willmar 3
The Thunder Bay Border Cats defeated the Willmar Stingers 7-3 Sunday night and knocked them out of the North Playoff race. Thunder Bay jumped out to a 4-0 lead and used 18 hits to take the game. Tanner Nivins was a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs scored while Ken Battiston was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Michael Woytek threw 6.0 innings of three-run baseball to earn the win. Jordan Smith improved his league leading average to .378 as he had a three-hit night.
Madison 6, Green Bay 5
The Mallards kept their 2010 Playoff chances alive as they beat the Green Bay Bullfrogs 6-5 in front of 6,750 wild NWL fans. The Mallards use three-hit nights from Adam Davis (Illinois) and Brent Warren (Oregon State) to lead the offense. Madison’s pitching staff shut down the Bullfrogs the final four innings as they only allowed two hits during those four frames. Brad Schreiber (Purdue) drove in two runs in the loss for Green Bay.
Alexandria 4, Mankato 3
The Beetles took the game 4-3 from the Mankato MoonDogs as they had six hits on the night. Alexandria’s pitching duo of Pedro Ramos (Lewis Clark State) and Wes Rich (Montevallo) only allowed three runs on six hits. Ramos earned the win, his 1st of the season, while Rich registered the save. David Miller had three hits in the loss for the MoonDogs.
