The Battle Creek Bombers are excited to announce that Bombers Assistant General Manager Brian Colopy will officially be promoted to the General Managers position effective immediately.
Owner and President of the Northwoods League Dick Radatz Jr. officially announced the decision this past week at the Northwoods League meetings in Waterloo, Iowa. “We are fortunate to be able to promote a person of Brian’s caliber to take over the business operations of the Bombers. We look to a bright future,” said Radatz.
“I am extremely excited to have this opportunity with the Bombers. Battle Creek has a rich baseball tradition and I really believe this organization can thrive here. I’m looking forward to bringing in a talented front office to take this thing to the next level,” said Colopy.
Brian takes over for Rick Lindau who served as the Bombers GM for the past 3 ½ years. “Being able to work with Rick this past season will help in the transition process this upcoming year. Rick laid a great foundation to this organization and I cannot wait to build on it as best we can.”
“From our standpoint we need to continue to strive to improve in all areas of our organization. That includes business operations, wins and losses on the field, all the way down to customer service. We need to raise the bar.”
Brian brings a solid baseball background to Battle Creek. During his collegiate career, Brian played for the Ohio University Bobcats. He then pursued a professional baseball career with the Chillicothe Paints in the Frontier League for two seasons. Brian also spent two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Capital University Crusaders in Columbus, Ohio.
After his baseball career, Brian received a Masters of Business Administration in 2008 then a Masters in Sports Administration and Facility Management in 2009 from Ohio University. During that time, Brian served as the Assistant General Manager for the Southern Ohio Copperheads Baseball team in the Great Lakes League. More recently, Brian worked for the Ripken Baseball Group in the front office of the Augusta GreenJackets.
“We already have some exciting things planned for 2011 off of the field. On the field we will have a much earlier start building our team than this past year. I believe hiring a coach this fall will give us more time to bring in the caliber of talent that we need to be successful in this league.”
