Former Brainerd star Andy Dirks and La Crosse Logger Wade Gaynor were recently named Detroit Tigers organizational All-Stars. The two former Northwoods League (NWL) players had productive Minor League seasons in 2010.

Dirks, a 2006 and 2007 NWL All-Star, played nearly 100 games with the Erie SeaWolves (Double-A) and 20 plus games with the Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A). The 6’0’’ lefty showed his athleticism this past season by hitting for power and average while also stealing bases and playing great defense. Dirks hit .296 while playing in Erie and Toledo with 15 home runs and 22 steals. While in the NWL Dirks finished in the top four in batting average in both 2006 and 2007 with .308 and .347 averages respectively.

Wade Gaynor, who played for La Crosse in 2008, blossomed into an all around baseball player in 2010. The 3rd basemen played with the West Michigan Whitecaps (Single-A) of the Midwest League and finished the season 2nd in runs scored with 91. The 6’3’’ 225 pound Gaynor hit .286 while leading the Whitecaps with 10 home runs.
