The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers of the Northwoods League announced today that Kyle Teague of Valdosta State, Charlie Henderson of Regis University and Matt Florer of Loyola-Marymount have signed contracts to play for the Lunkers this summer according to general manager Dustin Anaas. All three played for the Lunkers during the 2010 season.

Teague, a right-handed junior from Oxford, Mich., was arguably the Lunkers best pitcher last summer.  He led the team in strikeouts, was among the team’s leaders in innings, wins and ERA and was one of the team’s three Northwoods League Mid-Season All-Stars.  Teague begins his first season at VSU after transferring from Oakland (Mich.).

Henderson, the right-handed junior from Centennial, Colo., showed great control and stamina last summer as he led the Lunkers in starts and innings.  He will become the first-ever third-year Lunker, as he has been with the team since the Lunkers’ inaugural 2009 season.

Florer is a southpaw from Mission Viejo, Calif. who saw his 2010 Lunkers season cut short due to injury.  He is entering his sophomore season at LMU and can contribute both as a starter and out of the bullpen.

“Having guys around like Matt, Charlie and Kyle who know the grind of the Northwoods League and what it takes to be successful is important not only for their progression as players, but to our first-year players as well,” General Manager Dustin Anaas said.  “Having these guys back on our staff will give us confidence in our arms from the get-go.”
