The Waterloo Bucks announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jake Powers to their roster for the 2011 season. Powers is a redshirt freshman at Missouri State University.   
 
This season for the Bears, Powers has appeared in five games with 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.  With just three walks on the season, the Cottleville, Missouri native owns a 5.27 ERA and a 0-0 record. 
 
"I can say that I am truly excited to be a part of the Waterloo Bucks for the upcoming summer season," said Powers. "The Northwoods League is full of the best competition out there and I cannot wait to make a run at the NWL Championship with the Bucks." 
 
Powers spent the 2009 fall semester at University of Illinois-Chicago, before transferring to Missouri State in January 2010; redshirting for the 2010 season.   
 
In the summer of 2010, Powers played for the Sedalia Bombers, a member of the M.I.N.K. League. The 5’10", 165-pound pitcher finished the season with a 6-2 record, leading the league in wins.  In 16 games and 40.2 innings, Powers had a 2.23 ERA, and 43 strikeouts, the seventh most strikeouts in the league.   
 
As a senior at Francis Howell Central High School, Powers set team records with 94 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.87. He also earned first-team all state, all-conference, and all metro that year.
