The Thunder Bay Border Cats are proud to announce the signing of infielder James Kottaras for the 2011 Northwoods League season.  Kottaras is a native of Markham, ON, and becomes the third Canadian born player on the Cats roster joining Zak Miller and Will Thorp.

In addition, the Cats have also signed third baseman Alex Guthrie, outfielder Mike Hubbard and pitcher Reid Rooney. 
 
Kottaras played two years for the Canadian National Junior team in 2007 and 2008 and is currently in his junior season at Bradley University in Peoria, IL.  The 5’10", 165 pound infielder was a second team All American in junior college at Oklahoma’s Connors State College.  Kottaras is batting .167 in six games with the Bradley this season. 
 
Guthrie is a 6’2", 205 pound righthanded hitter and plays his collegiate ball at California’s Loyola Marymount University.  The junior from Sunnyvale, CA, has played in 25 games this season and is hitting .284 with nine doubles and 12 runs batted in.  Guthrie was tied for second on the team last season in home runs with six, while batting .286 with 25 RBI’s. 
 
Hubbard is a 6’2", 180 pound righthanded hitter from Northridge, CA.  He is currently a freshman at Stony Brook University in New York, where he is a teammate of former Border Cats outfielder Tanner Nivins.  Hubbard has played in 11 games this spring and is batting .240 with one double and one RBI. 
 
Rooney is a 6’4", 205 pound righthander from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI.  The sophomore from Downers Grove, IL, has made three relief appearances this season for CMU and is 0-0 with five strikeouts in five innings and a 9.00 earned run average.
