The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of Gabe Weidenaar, a versatile utility player from Oklahoma State University.

The everyday starting center fielder, is also called upon to set up their closer on the pitcher’s mound. Weidenaar, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior is currently hitting .338 with seven doubles, two homeruns and 17 RBI for the # 18 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. 

He has made 6 appearances on the mound, striking out 12 in 14.1 innings of work and earning two saves.  Opponents are only hitting .200 against him. His last mound outing was April 17th vs. #8 ranked Oklahoma where he pitched 3.0 innings of mid relief, allowing 2 runs, (1 earned) an striking out 3.  OSU won the contest 10-11 in 10 innings.

Weidenaar played two years at the College of Southern Nevada before coming to Oklahoma State.  As a sophomore, he hit .373 with seven home runs, 15 doubles and stole 13 bases.  He recorded 98 strikeouts in 71 innings of work, while posting a 2.79 ERA.  Weidenaar helped his team to the Junior College World Series in 2010 and was named to the SWAC second team all-conference.
