The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers of the Northwoods League announced today that right-handed pitcher Aaron Griffin and right-handed pitcher/infielder Bret Dahlson of Loyola Marymount University have signed contracts to play for the Lunkers this summer, according to general manager Dustin Anaas. Griffin and Dahlson follow fellow teammate and returning Lunker Matt Florer to the Brainerd Lakes Area.
A 6-foot-4 sophomore from El Cajon, Calif., Griffin made a team-high 20 appearances during the 2010 season, compiling a (4-2) record. This year as a sophomore, Griffin has made six starts and a total of 16 appearances, posting a (5-3) record to go along with a 3.18 ERA. He certainly will get a chance to start for the Lunkers throughout the course of the summer.
Dahlson, a 6-foot freshman from Yorba Linda, Calif., has been a consistent starter for the Lions this year, playing mostly at 1st base. He is hitting .246 with 2 home runs and 15 runs batted in. Dahlson has also shown the ability to pitch, having made two appearances out of the bullpen for Loyola Marymount this season.
“We are very happy to continue the strong tradition of bringing players from Loyola Marymount up to the Brainerd Lakes Area,” said Lunkers General Manager Dustin Anaas. “Aaron has shown his ability to come out of the bullpen and start, which will be great as the summer goes along. And Bret’s ability to both hit and pitch for us will definitely be counted on this summer.”
