Waterloo 4, Battle Creek 3

The Waterloo Bucks earned their 1st win of the season as they defeated Battle Creek 4-3 on Friday night.  The Bucks pitching staff only allowed six hits on the night and scored a timely run in the top of the 9th for the win. Jeremy Hill (Nicholls State), Jordan Adams (Central Michigan) and Matt Reistetter (Hofstra) all registered two hits in the win.  Matt Hitt stayed hot for the Bombers as he knocked out two hits in the loss to improve his average to .545 in 2011. 

Wisconsin 7, Eau Claire 6

The Woodchucks used a seven run 4th inning to earn their 1st win of the 2011 season.  Wisconsin’s Mitch Manning (Salt Lake) paced the offense after going 3-for-4.  Nick Addison (Illinois-Chicago) had a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs in the loss for the Express.  Ryan Iverson (Wisconsin Stevens Point) allowed one run in 5.2 innings to earn the win in relief while Cameron Amsrud (Wisconsin Milwaukee) registered his 1st save of the season for Wisconsin. 

La Crosse 7, Green Bay 3

The La Crosse Loggers won their 1st game in 2011 as they beat the Green Bay Bullfrogs 7-3 at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay. The Loggers pounded out eleven hits to the Bullfrogs five and had all but two Loggers register a hit.  Cameron Flynn homered and drove in three runs for La Crosse.  The Loggers pitching staff struck out seven in the win.  Erik Schoenrock earned the win in relief after throwing 2.0 scoreless innings.  Joe Betcher (Illinois Chicago) was 2-for-4 in the loss with one run scored. 

Brainerd 9, Alexandria 3

The Lunkers improved to 2-1 on the season with a 9-3 win over the Alexandria Beetles.  Brainerd scored nine runs on eleven hits and were led by hot hitting Dan Olinger (Minnesota).  Olinger improved his batting average to .571 with a 3-for-5 performance with three RBIs. Phil Imholte (St. Cloud) had three RBIs from the nine-hole for the Lunkers.  Tyler Harris (St. Edwards) registered the save after throwing 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball.  Dale Ricketts (Tennessee Wesleyan) had three hits in the loss for the Beetles. 

Madison 6, Wisconsin Rapids 0

The Madison Mallards improved to 3-0 with a 6-0 win at Witter Field Friday night.  The Mallards blanked the Rafters thanks to a great pitching performance from starting pitcher Cash Collins (Wofford) and relief pitcher Zach White (Wake Forest) who combined to throw a three hitter.  The Mallards offense was led by Mike Hollenbeck (Illinois State) who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the win. 

Thunder Bay 9, Willmar 0

The Border Cats won their opening series of the season on Friday night by blanking the Stingers 9-0 in Willmar.  Jon Carlson (Parkland Junior College), pitched 6.0 solid innings for the win and relievers Brian Voight (Augustana College), Nick Maiers (St. Cloud State) and John Jeanes (Post University) completed the shutout.  First baseman Kevin Taylor (St. Joseph’s University) connected for a long home run in the rout and third baseman Alex Guthrie (Loyola Marymount) had his second straight two-hit game.  

Mankato 16, Rochester 6

The Mankato MoonDogs completed a three game sweep of the Rochester Honkers on Friday night with a 16-6 win.  The MoonDogs had six batters that registered multi-hit games with Scott Sommerfeld (Missouri) and Zach Borenstein (Eastern Illinois) collecting three hits apiece.  The MoonDogs 3rd basemen, Blair Moore (San Diego State), drove in four runs in the Mankato win.  Jimmie Koch (Florida Tech) hit his 2nd home run of the season in the Honker’s loss. 

St. Cloud 4, Duluth 3

The River Bats used a balanced offensive attack to take down the Duluth Huskies Friday night.  St. Cloud had eight hits on the night and were led at the plate by Ronnie Sucre (Pittsburgh).  Sucre was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Chris Kubitz (St. Cloud) earned the win in relief of Austen Wisroth (Wayne State) as the left-handed Kubitz allowed two hits in 3.0 innings.
