North

Alexandria 8, Willmar 5

The Beetles used two separate four-run innings to upend the Willmar Stingers 8-5 in front of 733 NWL fans.  The Beetles scored four runs in the 2nd and 8th innings thanks to solid hitting from Rob Elliott (Bradley), John Haberman (Pacific), and Jake Stinnett (Maryland).  Elliott, Haberman, and Stinnett all had two hits in the win.  Casey Shiver (Southern Polytechnic) earned his 1st save of the season after a scoreless 9th inning. 

Brainerd 4, St. Cloud 0

The Lunkers took down the St. Cloud River Bats Wednesday night by a score of 4-0.  Brainerd’s Jason Forjet (Florida Gulf Coast) was brilliant on the mound as he shutdown the River Bats offense.  Forjet only allowed five hits and struck out ten in the win.  Steven Brault (Regis) had three hits in the win while Wade Wass (Meridian CC) had a home run.  The River Bats Bryan Peters (Nebraska) had three hits in the loss. 

Duluth 8, Mankato 7

The Duluth Huskies were down 7-4 with in the bottom of the 10th when A.J. Robinson Jr. came to the plate.  Robinson Jr. drove in three runs on a triple to tie the game and 7-7 and later scored on a J.D. Dorgan (St. Thomas) single to beat the Mankato MoonDogs 8-7 at Wade Stadium.  Dorgan had three hits and two RBIs in his 2nd game with the Huskies.  The Huskies improve to 4-4 while the MoonDogs have lost their last two games and are now 6-2. 

Thunder Bay 5, Rochester 4

The Rochester Honkers are now 2-6 after losing to the Thunder Bay Border Cats 5-4.  Thunder Bay came from behind in the 9th inning to take down the Honkers. Entering the 9th inning, the Border Cats were down 4-2 but scored their 1st run of the 9th on a wild pitch, their 2nd on a walk and their 3rd on another wild pitch for the victory.  Zak Miller (Yavapai) takes the loss after allowing three runs in 1.0 inning of work. Davy Wright (Texas Christian) was 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the loss for the Honkers. 

 

South

Wisconsin Rapids 6, Waterloo 2

The Rafters jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and eventually beat the Bucks 6-2 at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.  The Rafters had twelve hits in the win and were led offensively by Bobby Martin (Valparaiso) and Joshua Cyr (North Alabama).  Martin and Cyr had identical lines as they were 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.  Jeremy Lucas (Indiana State) was 3-for-4 in the loss for Waterloo. 

La Crosse 3, Eau Claire 2

Starting pitcher Harrison Cooney (Florida Gulf Coast) and reliever Michael Schum (Wright State) combined to throw a six hitter against the Eau Claire Express Wednesday night.  Cooney threw 5.1 innings while Schum threw the final 3.2 innings and did not give up a hit.  The Loggers didn’t need much offense to beat the Express, but received a two-run homer from Dex Kjerstad (Texas) in the 6th inning to derail the Express. 

Battle Creek 4, Green Bay 0

The Bombers beat the Bullfrogs Wednesday night by a score of 4-0 in Green Bay.  Battle Creek used a nice pitching performance from Troy Forton (Western Michigan) to shutdown the Bullfrogs.  Forton threw 7.0 innings of scoreless baseball while striking out five batters.  Daniel Rockett (Texas San Antonio), Troy White (Northern Illinois), and Jordan Dean (Central Michigan) all had two hits in the win for Battle Creek.
