Alexandria’s Kevin Vangheluwe (Michigan) [pronounced van-GAL-a-way] couldn’t have pitched any better than he did in relief on Tuesday night. The 6-foot 4-inch junior right-hander tossed 3 2/3 hitless innings of relief while striking out two and earning the win in the Beetles’ 4-3 extra innings victory over Mankato. The first batter he faced in the 7^th reached on an error, which led to an unearned run, but no one got on base in the 8^th, 9^th, or 10^th innings. The third-year Beetle helped his squad win their first playoff game since 2003. Vangheluwe led the Northwoods League with eight wins during the regular season.
