To many, the perception of a ball player changes dramatically when his status goes from “Minor Leaguer” to “Major Leaguer”. The player likely didn’t become better at baseball the moment he got called up or appeared in his first big league game, but to fans of baseball, the player’s story becomes more interesting. It’s probably no different for former Northwoods Leaguer Steve Edlefsen who became a Major Leaguer Sunday in Houston after his perfect 1 1/3 innings of relief for the San Francisco Giants. He’s the same guy he was a week ago, but now the stories of his life begin to surface.

Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press wrote about how this one-time bat boy for a local amatuer team is now a Major Leaguer.

This next article was written in January of 2007, but shows how much the summer Edlefsen spent with the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League impacted his career. Would’ve he ever gotten an opportunity to pitch at Nebraska if not for the opportunity in the Northwoods League?

Curt McKeever detailed what did happen in this article from the Lincoln Journal Star.
