Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced right-handed pitcher Derek Lamacchia will return to play for the Bucks in 2012. Lamacchia (pronounced luh-MOCK-e-uh), a junior at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, is the first player to be named to the Waterloo roster for the team’s 18th season.

Last season, Lamacchia appeared in 14 games for the Bucks, garnering 12 starts. The righty finished the year with a 4-5 record, a 3.54 ERA, and 64 strikeouts in 73.2 innings. The Whitestone, New York native held lead-off hitters to a .221 average.

In 2011 for Quinnipiac, Lamacchia went 4-5 with a 3.41 ERA and 47 strikeouts.  Appearing in 11 games for the Bobcats, the 6’3", 210-pound hurler led the team in wins, innings pitched (63.1), and strikeouts.

Lamacchia played high school baseball at Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, earning All-City First Team honors. Born December 18, 1990, Andrew is the son of Frank and Daniela Lamacchia.
