Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Blake Denman to their roster for the 2012 season. Denman, a sophomore at the University of Texas-San Antonio, is the ninth player to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the team’s 18th season.

Last year, Denman finished with a 3-2 record and a 3.45 ERA in 20 games for UTSA. The Bellaire, Texas native struck out 23 batters in 47 innings for the Roadrunners.

"Blake is coming to us this summer following a productive 2011 summer pitching in the Texas Collegiate League," said Waterloo field manager Travis Kiewiet. "As a starter last summer, he went deep into games and proved that he can shoulder a workload. At the University of Texas-San Antonio, Blake both started and came out of the bullpen which shows that he is versatile and will be able to help us in a variety of rolls. With the summer league experience and another year of school ball under his belt, I expect Blake to be a major contributor to our success in the 2012 season."

Last summer, Denman pitched for the Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League where he went 4-6 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 games. In 70 innings pitched, the 6’1", 190-pounder struck out 58 batters, the second most in the TCL.

Born October 26, 1991, Denman attended Bellaire High School where he was named to the All-District 20-5A second team. Blake is the son of Mark and Cindi Denman.
