Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of utility player Nico Zych to their roster for the 2012 season. Zych (full name pronounced NEE-ko ZICK), a freshman at the University of Tennessee-Martin, is the 15th player to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the team’s 18th season.
 
This season for UT-Martin, Zych has seen action both as a pitcher and a position player. The 6’0", 170-pounder is hitting .500 (2-for-4) with a triple and two RBI in two games. Zych also has one appearance as a pitcher, hurling 0.2 innings and striking out one. The righty owns a perfect 0.00 ERA after facing three batters for the Skyhawks.

"I’m excited about the opportunity to play for the Bucks 2012 team," said Zych, a native of Monee, Illinois. "After hearing great things from Bucks of past seasons, I am very eager continue the great baseball tradition in Waterloo. Hopefully, come the end of the summer, I will have helped the Bucks bring a Northwoods Championship back to Riverfront Stadium and the fans of Waterloo." 

Born June 7, 1993, Zych attended St. Rita of Cascia High School where he was a 2011 Rawlings Central Region All-American Honorable Mention selection. Zych hit .345 with three homers and 31 RBI while scoring 26 runs and posted a 2-1 record to go along with four saves during his senior year. Nico is the son of Don and Deb Zych and his brother, Tony, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
