(Rochester, MN)—The Rochester Honkers have added a big left-handed arm to their roster for this summer in Jared Miller.  Miller, a 6’6”, 240-pound, Avon, Indiana native is playing in his freshman year at Vanderbilt University this spring.

Miller made his debut with Vanderbilt on February 17th against the University of Stanford Cardinals, in which the Commodores lost 8-3.  Miller pitched the final two innings for Vanderbilt, giving up one run on four hits.  He also had one strikeout, one hit batter, and threw a total of 31 pitches.  Vanderbilt (0-3) will make their 2012 home debut on February 22nd against Oakland University.

Miller was a 2011 First-Team All-State selection for the state of Indiana after hitting .465 with 13 homeruns and 42 RBIs, while also showing success on the mound.  Miller finished the year with a 5-1 record and 1.06 ERA, with one save.  Miller’s 3 complete games, 2 shutouts, and 13.4 K/7 innings were all best on the team.  Jared was All-Conference from 2009-2011, and an Indiana Mr. Baseball candidate his senior year, while also garnering Indiana All-West Player of the Year honors.  Miller holds Avon High School career records in homeruns (20), RBIs (83), innings pitched (142.2), and strikeouts (204).

Opening day for the 2012 Rochester Honkers is on May 30 when the Honkers travel to Waterloo, IA to take on the Waterloo Bucks.  The home opener is Thursday, May 31st against the same Waterloo Bucks.  Game time is 7:05PM.  Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now on sale for the 2012 season.  Call the Rochester Honkers office at 507-289-1170 for more information.
