Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of utility player Freddy Villalobos to their roster for the 2012 season. Villalobos (pronounced vee-ya-LO-bose), a junior at Stephen F. Austin State University, is the 25th player to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the team’s 18th season. 
 
This season, the 6’0", 190-pounder has played in 38 games for the Lumberjacks, seeing the majority of his time at second base. Villalobos is hitting .291 with two home runs, 22 RBI, and a .418 slugging percentage.
  
Last summer, Villalobos played for the Victoria Generals in the Texas Collegiate League where he was named an All-Star for the South team as a second baseman. The Maracaibo, Venezuela native finished the season tied for third place in the Player of the Year voting, hitting .279 with 15 doubles, six home runs, 40 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. Villalobos was ranked as the 25th best prospect in the TCL by Perfect Game.
In 2011, Villalobos played at Weatherford Community College where he led the Coyotes in nearly every offensive category while hitting cleanup in the lineup. Villalobos finished the season with a .424 average, a .628 slugging percentage, 26 doubles, and seven home runs.
Born October 25, 1990, Villalobos attended Westside High School in Houston, Texas where he hit .519 as a senior, garnering All-Region and first team All-District honors. Freddy is the son of Merilyn Villalobos.
