MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is pleased to announce the commitment of infielder Chad Christensen, along with pitcher’s Wayland Moore and Greg Milhorn to play for the MoonDogs in the 2012 season.
Christensen, a six-foot-three-inch, 206-pound junior of The University of Nebraska is continuously improving for the Huskers by increasing his sophomore batting average of .292 to his current average of .316 and posting a .489 slugging average.
“Chad has had a heck of a year with Nebraska finding his way back to short-stop and we expect him to be a good player for us up the middle,” said Field Manager Mike Orchard. “As a right-handed hitter Chad will have a place in the middle of our lineup.
The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native ranked second in hits for the Huskers with 61 during the spring of 2011 and went on to become a two-time California Collegiate League All-Star that summer.
Moore, a six-foot-two-inch, 185-pound junior of Marshall University is making an impression as a left-handed pitcher in his first season with the Thundering Herd showcasing a 2.7 ERA. Moore joins the Herd after transferring from Seminole State College (Seminole, Okla.) where he was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-American team after a spotless 9-0 record and 80 strikeouts in 69 innings.
“Wayland comes off with a pretty strong arm that can last a whole summer with us. We will be able to use him as either a starter or relief pitcher,” said Orchard.
Milhorn, a six-foot-two-inch, 175-pound freshman of the University of Arkansas proved he could handle college baseball when he made his debut against Northwestern State University as he pitched three shutout innings, all the while allowing just one hit. In his limited three appearances for the Razorbacks, Milhorn posts a 3.38 ERA.
“Despite limited play, Greg is part of a premiere program in Arkansas. He should have a big arm and will be able to throw a ton for us this summer,” said Orchard.
The MoonDogs home opener is scheduled for Friday, June 1 at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Cloud Rox at Franklin Rogers Park. Season and single game tickets are now on sale at the MoonDogs office located at 1221 Caledonia Street.
