BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (May 18, 2012) — The Bombers are pleased to announce the signing of Casey Smith, a junior at Indiana University.
Casey is a two-way player at Indiana, playing both pitcher and outfielder for the Hoosiers. In his first two years at IU Smith has made 32 pitching appearances, mostly out of the bullpen. He has gone 1-1 on the mound with an earned run average of 9.71. Smith has also played in 17 games in the outfield. In his limited number of plate appearances, he has hit .196 with four runs batted in.
Casey graduated Bloomington North High School a semester early so that he could get started right away playing at Indiana under his head coach and father, Tracy Smith. Unfortunately for Casey, he has been unable to play this year for the Hoosiers due to a foot injury, but will be returning to the field with the Bombers this summer.
The Battle Creek Bombers are members of the prestigious Northwoods League that has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other summer collegiate baseball league in North America.
