Plenty of Power was displayed around the Northwoods League on Saturday night. There were 11 total home runs from around the league, including five in the matchup between the Rochester Honkers and the Thunder Bay Border Cats. There were also 103 runs scored on Saturday.
Wisconsin Rapids @ Eau Claire
The Rafters bats were hot early as Josh Cyr (North Alabama) crushed a three-run home run to left field to give the Rafters an early 3-1 lead. Alex Bacon (North Florida) also homered to left field for this third of the season. Pat Kelly (Nebraska) was 4-for-5 with an RBI as well, as the Rafters win 9-6. The series wraps up Sunday in Eau Claire at 6:05 p.m.
Willmar @ Waterloo
Kevin Kaczmarski (Evansville) drove in three runs for the Bucks and Nick Maiers (St. Cloud State) got the win, his second of the season, in Waterloo’s 8-7 victory over the Willmar Stingers. This series will conclude on Sunday with a scheduled 3:05 p.m. start in Waterloo.
Wisconsin @ Green Bay
The Woodchucks were led by the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night, Luke Moran (Houston). Moran threw six shutout innings allowing just one hit and striking out eight. Wisconsin defeated Green Bay, 9-2. The series finishes on Sunday in Green Bay with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m.
Mankato @ St. Cloud
Matt McDaniel (Quincy) fought off the St. Cloud Rox through six innings allowing no runs and three hits while striking out seven batters. Garret Fischer (St. Cloud State) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the MoonDogs. The series finale is scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m. in St. Cloud on Sunday.
Madison @ La Crosse
Bo Henning (Sacramento CC) led the Loggers as their starting hurler. Henning threw seven no-hit innings and allowed just one run in the 10-4 win. Tyler Servais (Princeton) recorded four RBI on two hits for the Loggers. The finale will take place on Sunday in La Crosse beginning at 5:05 p.m.
Lakeshore @ Battle Creek
The Bombers thrived on a five-run seventh inning to go on and defeat the Chinooks 7-6. Jeremy Shay (Bowling Green) slapped a two-run double to left field to put the Bombers up for good. This series will finish up on Sunday in Battle Creek with the first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
Thunder Bay @ Rochester
The Honkers slugged their way to victory over the Border Cats 13-4 on Saturday. Dakota Smith (Kansas) lead off the bottom of the first with an opposite field solo blast. Later in that inning, Ben Lahn (Lamar CC) hit the first grand slam of the NWL season. Tevor Podratz (Hawaii) and Jared Allen (Tennessee) added home runs of their own for Rochester. The Honkers will look for the sweep in Sunday’s finale at Mayo Field with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
Duluth @ Alexandria
Huskies starter Josh Mooney (Dixie State) held the Beetles to six scoreless innings in Duluth’s 12-0 victory over Alexandria. The Huskies recorded 14 hits and Michael Suiter (Kansas) reached base five times. The series finale will take place on Sunday in Alexandria at 3:05 p.m.
