ROCHESTER, Minn. (June 7, 2012) — It was good to be a home team in the Northwoods League on Thursday night as five teams recorded victories in front of their hometown faithful. Also in Thursday’s action, Waterloo got back on track and the Mallards held on to a close one. 

Eau Claire 2, La Crosse 5

La Crosse’s night was highlighted by Nick Pasquale’s (Diablo Valley CC) night on the mound. Pasquale threw seven innings, allowed just one run and struck out nine batters. The Loggers host the Express on Friday for the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. 

St. Cloud 7, Alexandria 1

Phil Imholte (St. Cloud State) led the Rox in their victory over the Beetles. Imholte was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the 7-1 win. Beetles take on the Rox again on Friday to finish the series in St. Cloud at 7:05 p.m.

Thunder Bay 3, Mankato 5


Blair Moore (Cal Baptist) led the MoonDogs once again. Moore went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the 5-3 win. Wayland Moore (Marshall) also struckout six in six innings pitched to lead the MoonDogs pitching staff. Thunder Bay finishes their series in Mankato on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. start. 

Rochester 6, Duluth 5

The Honkers were led at the plate by Dakota Smith (Kansas), who was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night. Smith hit a two-run double for Rochester in their three-run fourth inning and helped them go on in their 6-5 win. The Huskies scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn’t finish the comeback. The Huskies will host the Rochester Honkers for the series finale at 7:05 p.m. on Friday.

Wisconsin Rapids 5, Wisconsin 6

Greg Hamrock (East Central University) scored on an error by the Rafters’ first baseman to put he Woodchucks up 6-5 in the bottom of the eighth and things stayed that way. The series will finish up in Wausau, Wis. on Friday at 6:35 p.m. 

Battle Creek 4, Lakeshore 5

As a result of a throwing error, Zack Granite (Seton Hall) scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning helping the Chinooks beat the Bombers 5-4. The Chinooks will host the Battle Creek Bombers at 7:05 p.m. on Friday for the series finale. 

Waterloo 10, Willmar 2

After a three-run home run by Jordan Adams (Central Michigan) in the top of the first the Bucks never looked back and got back on the winning track. The Bucks improve their record to 8-1 on the season. Willmar will host the Waterloo Bucks on Friday for the series finale with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. 

Green Bay 0, Madison 1

The Mallards were led by Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night Trevor Foss (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). Foss threw seven shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. This series will wrap up in Madison when the Mallards host Green Bay at 7:05 p.m. on Friday.
