ROCHESTER, Minn. (July 31, 2012) – A no-hitter, a new league record and a franchise record made Tuesday arguably the league’s most exciting day in 2012. 

Jesse Holiday (Southern) and Jacob Dorris (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) threw a combined no-hitter for the Loggers in their shutout of the Madison Mallards.


Alexandria’s Ben Moore came into Tuesday just two RBIs short of the Northwoods League record for RBI in a season. He would pick up three in the team’s victory over the St. Cloud Rox. He also connected for his 13th home run of the season. With the blast, Moore now holds sole possession of the Alexandria Beetles record for home runs in a single season passing World Series-champion Allen Craig who hit 12 in 2005.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats beat the MoonDogs again on Tuesday, giving them a franchise-record eighth win in a row. 

Mankato 5, Thunder Bay 6

The MoonDogs came back with a run in the eighth and one in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough as the Border Cats held them off for the 6-5 win. The Border Cats will host the MoonDogs for the series finale on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. 

Rochester 2, Willmar 4

Max Kuhn (Kentucky) hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Stingers the 4-2 win. The Stingers and Honkers will meet again on Wednesday for the final game of the series at 7:05 p.m. 

St. Cloud 9, Alexandria 12

Ben Moore (Alabama) was 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored and picked up his 13th home run of the season. He also broke the single-season record for RBI in the NWL (68). He now has 69 RBI on the year. The Rox will host the Beetles on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. 

Waterloo 3, Duluth 5

Wade Wass (Meridian CC) picked up his fifth home run of the season to help the Huskies get back on the winning track. The Huskies will host the Bucks on Wednesday for the series finale at 7:05 p.m.

Madison 0, La Crosse 10

Jesse Holiday (Southern) and Jacob Dorris (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) combined for the Loggers’ second no-hitter in franchise history. Holiday threw seven innings and Dorris finished the final two. The Loggers will host the Mallards again on Wednesday for a 7:05 p.m. start. 

Lakeshore 5, Battle Creek 0

Nick Soldano (North Park) threw seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four to help the Chinooks win their fourth straight. The Bombers will host the Chinooks again on Wednesday for a 11:05 a.m. ET start. 

Wisconsin Rapids 2, Eau Claire 3

 

Nick Addison (UIC) went 2-for-4 with three RBI and picked up his ninth home run of the season. This series will shift to Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Wisconsin 13, Green Bay 8

Eric Filia-Snyder (UCLA) went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Woodchucks got back on the winning track and improved to 20-3. The Bullfrogs will host the Woodchucks again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
