ROCHESTER, Minn. (August 2, 2012) – The Duluth Huskies fought for their playoff lives as they were able to overcome an early seven-run deficit to defeat Willmar and move to within a game and a half of first place in the North. 

The Mallards can’t catch a break as the Woodchucks continue their winning ways. However, Madison did pick up a win of their own to stay just five games back of Wisconsin. 

Thunder Bay 4, St. Cloud 8

Chris Paul (California) was 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Rox, including his 18th double of the season. The Rox will host the Border Cats again on Friday for a 7:05 p.m. start. 

Rochester 7, Waterloo 5

Ben Lahn’s (Lamar CC) eighth home run of the season was a two-run shot that gave the Honkers the lead in the top of the ninth and the eventual win. The Bucks will host the Honkers on Friday for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. 

Duluth 10, Willmar 7

The led 7-0 after three innings, but the Huskies battled back to tie it at seven a piece in the seventh inning. Then Duluth would score three in the top of the ninth to complete the comeback and move closer in the North standings. The Stingers will host the Huskies on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. 

Green Bay 9, La Crosse 6

Billy Moon (Gonzaga) hit his third home run of the season and when 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. The Bullfrogs and Loggers will go at it again on Friday at 7:05 p.m. 

Wisconsin 3, Lakeshore 1

Jack Fischer (Wake Forest) threw 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out seven. The Chinooks will host the Woodchucks again on Friday for a 7:05 p.m. 

Madison 8, Eau Claire 4

 

Derek Fisher (Virginia) was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. He also picked up his eighth home run of the season. The Mallards and Express will go at it again on Friday at 7:05 p.m. in Eau Claire. 

Battle Creek 6, Wisconsin Rapids 5

Jeremy Shay (Bowling Green) drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth on his first hit of the game as he picked up the RBI-single. The Rafters will host the Bombers again on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
