MANKATO, Minn. (August 16, 2012) – The La Crosse Loggers jumped out to an early lead and were led by a solid pitching performance and are now just one game from becoming the 2012 Northwoods League Champions.

The La Crosse Loggers jumped out to an early lead, as they led the MoonDogs 7-1 after four innings and never looked back. They would add two more runs in the sixth and three in the ninth for the 12-3 win.   

Brandon Bednar (Florida Gulf Coast) was 2-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored and a homerun for the Loggers at the dish. His two-run homerun was what started the Loggers’ scoring in the top of the second inning. 

La Crosse was led on the mound by Alex Gunn (Hinds CC). Gunn threw 6.1 innings for the Loggers and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out three batters. 

Game two of the 2012 Summer Collegiate World Series between the Mankato MoonDogs and La Crosse Loggers is Friday at 7:05 p.m. in La Crosse.
