Field Manager, Dale Varsho has announced two more verbal commitments for the 2013 season.
Blake Schmit, who played parts of the past two seasons, will return for his first full summer and his second overall with the Express. Joining him will be Maryland teammate, Charlie White.
Schmit is in his first season at Maryland after playing two seasons at DMACC. In his two seasons he helped lead the Bears to back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division II World Series. He was named to the 2012 ICCAC All-Conference First team. In 2011 he was selected as the Easton Division II Defensive Player of the Year. With the Express, Schmit spent most of his time in the infield, but also played in the outfield a little bit.
White is a redshirt sophomore for the Terrapins. In 2012, he was the starting center fielder and leadoff hitter until he broke his hand in mid-March. He played in 51 games as a freshman, including 46 starts and led the team in batting average (.304), hits (52), runs scored (30) and doubles (11). White went to Naperville North High School and was named second team All-State in Illinois as a senior by the Chicago Times, Chicago Tribune and Illinois Prep Baseball Report.
The Express open up the 2013 season, May 29 in Madison to take on the Mallards. The home opener is Sunday, June 2 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. Continue to watch for roster announcements through the spring leading all the way up to opening day.
The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
