MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is pleased to announce the commitment of infielder Chase Simpson and pitcher Trevor Belicek to return to play for the MoonDogs in the 2013 season.
Simpson, a 6-foot-1-inch, 195-pound junior of Wichita State (Wichita, Kans.) joined the MoonDogs for the 2012 season as a sophomore from the University of Oklahoma. The switch hitter who held a .307 batting average and 50 hits with 163 at bats will look to pick up where he left off last season for the MoonDogs.
"I look forward to bringing Chase back this summer, he is level-headed and will provide a nice balance to the MoonDogs. He knows when to take his walks and is versatile," said Field Manager Mike Orchard. "Chase can play multiple position, which provides a lot of flexibility on my end."
Belicek, a 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound sophomore of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi will return to Mankato for his second season with the MoonDogs. In 2012, Belicek posted a 2.45 ERA after 36.2 innings of work, going 3-3. The southpaw was selected to be a member of the North Division team at the 2012 Northwoods League All-Star game.
"Trevor was a big asset to the MoonDogs last summer and he’ll continue to be one this summer, his maturity will help a ton and I’m excited to have him back," said Orchard.
Fans can expect to see the Texas native in either a starting position or relief.
