Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Daniel Chavez to their roster for the 2013 season. Chavez, a junior at San Jose State University, is the 15th pitcher to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the team’s 19th season.
This season for the Spartans, Chavez has seen action in 14 games, starting four. The 6’3", 195-pounder owns a 1-3 record to go along with 20 strikeouts and an 11.20 ERA.

"Daniel is a pitcher who you know will compete hard on the mound," said Bucks pitching coach Tony Manville. "He is a high 3/4 arm slot slinger who throws strikes and forces hitters to put the ball in play. Daniel looks to add a solid arm to our starting rotation this summer."

Last season, Chavez played for the College of San Mateo, where he was 8-3 as a starter and struck out 54 batters in 89.1 innings. The San Mateo, California native finished the season with a 1.21 ERA and was named a first team All-Conference player.
Born January 24, 1991, Chavez attended Serra High School where he was the Central Coast Section Pitcher of the Year and a first-team All-CSS selection. Daniel is the son of David and Brenda Chavez.

The Bucks will open the 2013 season at home versus the St. Cloud Rox on May 29. Season tickets, group outings, and single-game tickets are currently on sale.
