Rochester, Minn (June 6th 2013)–Multiple Northwoods League alumni were taken in Thursday’s early rounds of the MLB amateur draft. On the field, current players looked to continue on the path to draft day.

In Wisconsin, Matt Tellor (Southeast Missouri) continued his torrid start to the season. Tellor hit a pair of home runs and drove in five more RBI, giving him 20 on the season. He is batting .414 with three home runs and five doubles along with a 1.335 OPS.

In Waterloo, the Duluth Huskies were able to shut out the Bucks and moved to 8-2 on the season.

Wisconsin 6, Madison 5

Matt Tellor (Southeast Missouri) had another huge night as he launched a pair of home runs and drove in five in the victory. He was joined by his teammate Tyler Steib (San Joaquin Delta) who collected two hits. The dynamic duo has led Wisconsin to a 6-2 record on the season.

Duluth 4, Waterloo 0

Luke Vandermaten (Iowa Central CC) tossed eight shutout innings while allowing only five hits. He also struck out five Bucks on the way to picking up his first win on the season. On offense, Trey Vavra (Eastern Illinois) hit his first home run of the season.

Lakeshore 4, La Crosse 2

As a sequel to Wednesday night’s marathon victory, the Chinooks only used nine innings to beat the Loggers on Thursday. The Chinooks have had their struggles on offense, but they used a three-run third inning to take out La Crosse.

Mankato 3, Rochester 1

The MoonDogs picked up another win on Thursday behind a strong outing from Brock Dykxhoorn (West Virginia). The freshman from Goderich, Ontario threw six shutout innings while allowing only three hits and recording six strikeouts.

St. Cloud 6, Alexandria 1

The Rox got a big night from Dustin Breshears (St. John’s) in Thursday’s win. Breshears went three-for-four with two RBI and a run scored. Starting pitcher Kyle Fischer (St. Cloud State) picked up his second win of the season while pitching six innings and giving up only one run.

Thunder Bay 12, Willmar 4

The Border Cats carried a one-run lead into the ninth and exploded for a seven-run inning on the way to victory. Cory Kay (Harper College) was three-for-four on the evening and scored a pair out of the lead off spot while Dylan Becker (Missouri State) hit a big home run and drove in three.

Eau Claire 5, Green Bay 4 (F/10)

The Express won in exciting fashion on Thursday night. After getting down 4-0 early, the Express made a comeback in the ninth inning with three runs to tie the game. In the bottom of the tenth, Brian Sicher (Air Force) drove in the winning run with a single.

Battle Creek 9, Wisconsin Rapids 8

The Rafters attempted to come back but stalled after scoring a run in the ninth. The Bombers used a massive nine-run second inning to get the victory. Eight of the nine Bomber starters scored. The Rafter bullpen was great in the loss, pitching seven shutout innings with five strikeouts.
