Rochester, Minn (June 15th, 2013)–In the past calendar week, the Northwoods League has been exposed to some rather incredible offensive performances. In Mankato, the Alexandria Blue Anchors made sure that this trend continued as they pounded out 21 hits and 18 runs against the Moon Dogs on Saturday.

In other action, the Battle Creek Bombers stole a road win from the Lakeshore Chinooks in a battle of the bullpens. After both starters combined for nine runs in five IP, no run was allowed after the top half of the fifth inning.

Unfortunately, mother nature had her way again on Saturday as the Wisconsin vs. Wisconsin Rapids match up was rained out.

Madison 4, Green Bay 2 (F/8)

With the game tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 7th, the Mallards took a lead on a go-ahead single from Luke Meeteer (Milwaukee). Starter Jamie Nunn (Appalachian State) was strong on for the hill for the Mallards as he struck out nine ‘Frogs in six innings of work.

Alexandria 18, Mankato 2

While the Blue Anchors scored 18 runs, starting pitcher Chase Rihtarchik (Michigan State) only needed three of them to get his second win of the season. As for the offense, Austin Listi (Dallas Baptist) did the bulk of his damage with six RBI.

Willmar 6, St. Cloud 5

Max Kuhn (Kentucky) collected a pair of hits and a duo of RBI and runs in the win for the Stingers. The Stingers showed great patience on offense as they were able to coax six walks on the night. Willmar was able to come away with the victory despite a short outing from their starting pitcher, who only lasted 3.2 innings.

Eau Claire 6, La Crosse 4

After getting up 4-0 in the 2nd inning, the Express lost their lead by the end of the top of the 6th. Fortunately for them, they were able to score two runs in the bottom half of the frame and shut out the Loggers the rest of the way.

Battle Creek 8, Lakeshore 7

This game consisted of two opposite halves. In the first 4.5 innings, 15 runs were scored. In the latter 4.5 innings, zero runs were scored. Matt Fears (Valdosta State) hit his second home run and drove in two runs on three hits in the victory. With the win the Bombers move to 11-7 and force a close south division to be even closer.

Rochester 7, Thunder Bay 6

After getting up 5-1 after six innings, the Honkers found themselves down by a run heading into the bottom of the 9th inning. The Honkers were able to walk-off on a single from Kevin Barker (UC Davis), which drove in both runs in the bottom of the frame.

Duluth 10, Waterloo 8

With the game tied at three heading into the seventh, the Huskies were able to score 7 times in the next two innings. Unfortunately for them, the Waterloo Bucks also rallied and had the tying run at the plate when the final out was recorded. Keith Curcio (Florida Southern) collected three hits and three RBI in the win.
