Former Logger Max Scherzer heads the list with a perfect 13-0 record

On Saturday July 6th the rosters for the National and American League All Stars were announced and five former Northwoods League players will be participating in the 2013 MLB All Star Game at Citi Field in New York on July 16th.

The five former Northwoods League players are: 

Tigers – Max Scherzer (La Crosse)

White Sox – Chris Sale (La Crosse)

Rays – Ben Zobrist (Wisconsin) 

Nationals – Jordan Zimmermann (Eau Claire)

Cardinals – Allen Craig (Alexandria)

Max Scherzer is currently 13-0 for the Tigers with a 3.06 ERA. Scherzer has 146 strikeouts in 123.2 innings pitched this season. Scherzer was a 2004 mid season All Star for the Loggers. 

Chris Sale currently has a 2.78 ERA and has two complete games to go along with 123 strikeouts and only 25 walks this season. Sale pitched for the Loggers during the 2008 season and was a mid season All Star.

Ben Zobrist was added as a reserve utility player to this year’s roster. Zobrist has 47 RBI in 87 games and is currently hitting .262 for the Rays. Zobrist played in Wausau with the Woodchucks during the 2003 season.

Jordan Zimmermann is also enjoying an excellent season for the Nationals. He currently has 12 wins and 3 complete games to go along with a sparkling 2.57 ERA. Zimmermann went to college at UW-Stevens Point and pitched for the Express in 2006.

Former two time, 2003 and 2005, Alexandria Beetle Allen Craig has knocked in 71 runs in 81 games while also hitting 10 home runs. Craig is currently hitting .329 and has a .429 slugging percentage.
