Rochester, Minn (August 14th, 2013)–Wednesday night featured a lone game on the schedule: game three of the South Divisional playoffs between the Madison Mallards and Lakeshore Chinooks. The elimination game was to decide who would be sent to the Summer Collegiate World Series on Thursday against Duluth.

Madison 5, Lakeshore 3

The Madison Mallards rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to upset the Lakeshore Chinooks on Wednesday in Mequon. After the Chinooks led 2-0 through seven innings, the Mallards came back with two runs in the top of the eighth. That tie was short-lived as the Chinooks would plate a run in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. In the top of the ninth, Alex Bacon (North Florida) launched a three-run home run to give the Mallards the lead.

The home run came off of Mitchell Sewald (LSU), who was very strong in the regular season. Sewald pitched 41 innings in the regular season with 30 strikeouts and an ERA of just 2.41. Bacon’s home run off of Lakeshore’s top gun lifted the Mallards into the Championship.

Donnie Hissa (Notre Dame) took a no-decision in the game for Lakeshore. Hissa pitched six shutout innings and allowed just five hits while striking out four batters. Unfortunately, his bullpen was unable to hold onto the lead. Joe McCarthy (Virginia) also added a pair of RBI for Madison in the win.

Thursday Schedule (Summer Collegiate World Series):
