Alexandria-MN – The Alexandria Blue Anchors, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced Al Newman will return for a second season as Field Manager of the Blue Anchors.
Newman who played and coached in the Minnesota Twins organization, and was lucky enough to win World Series rings in 1987 and 1991, brings a vast array of knowledge to the table. He looks to build off his first season within the organization in which he built a 24-46 record. The Anchors led the Northwoods League in hitting with a .287 AVG in 2013, but struggled on the mound with a 6.65 ERA. Newman had the team playing good baseball down the stretch and will be able to use that momentum going into 2014.
“Anchors up, I am totally excited about my return to Alexandria,” says Newman. “From the front office to the field staff, our goal is to bring excitement to the park and win baseball games.”
“Having Newmie back for a second year managing was a no brainer,” Anchor owner Adam Barta said. “ I think we all feel there is some unfinished business this year and Newmie is the man for the job. Having a two-time World Series champion leading this team is an experience the players and fans won’t forget.”
The Alexandria Blue Anchors are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.
